No to BULLYING !

By Eanna Canada

In this modern era, there are tons of ways to have fun. It’s never bad to have fun and enjoy life but having fun at the other’s expense is entirely different. Bullying is seeking to harm , intimidate and coerce people. It affects the physical, emotional and mental state of the victims. It lowers the self-esteem of the person and increases the chance of isolation from people which is not good. I believe that bullying should really be stopped. Bullying is not a joke because it affects the life of the person. Seeing this video made me realize that even things we just think is a mere joke, actually is hurting the person. This video has opened eyes to always be aware of my actions and the words I say.

Figure 1.0 Bullying incidents in School

Bullying in school is a significant problem worldwide and is one of the most common antisocial behaviors among adolescents and children. Bullying can come in many forms today. Bullying can happen in any number of places, contexts, or locations.  It could also be either on Social Media or in real life, but bullying can also start at school. I believe that bullying should be stopped because it is a damaging vicious circle.

Many bullies came from troubled abusive backgrounds that’s why they feel confused of what’s wrong or right. These feelings of frustrations are often used against children that’s why they take their frustrated feelings out unto others. Life as a child nowadays is not easy. The cycle of damage needs to be stopped. Ideally recognizing the bullies are often victims too. If we can help the problem at this top level, we have prevention over cure.

I always vote for prevention. Cruel world for so many. Stop the cycle!

Washday Wednesday

by: Eanna Cañada

Sometimes wearing a school uniform can be tiring, especially for girls because of the skirt. I personally am not a fan of wearing tight skirts. There is one particular day where it is not required to wear the school uniform- Wednesday. Wash day Wednesday is created so that students will be able to wash their uniforms and wear it again on Thursday and Friday.

One night in the HUMSS 11-B group chat, someone suggested that we should have a theme for this coming Wednesday which was already tomorrow. The final theme that was agreed upon was that each row had a specific color. 1st row is to wear red then the next row is white, then green, then black and lastly blue. Some didn’t respond in the group chat or even read the group chat which is why I didn’t expect anything on the “Color schemed Wednesday”.

I arrived in school, went in the room and there I saw how colorful the room was. As I was walking towards my chair, which is at the first row I passed by one group that is talking by the wall, wearing blue and across them, a group that wore red and black. As class started, everybody sat in their respective seats, then the color scheme came in to full view. Each row wore its specific color and it was really, really cool. Teachers noticed our theme and would give remarks like ” it’s so nice how your block can be united like this” or even “I wish I was your adviser so I can join your theme”. I actually didn’t expect it because some didn’t respond or even read the group chat. It really blew me away.

This is one of my unforgettable experience this school year because I saw how united our block can be. Although we are different people, with different attitudes and wants, we are still able to agree on certain things. Nobody is perfect and there will always be disagreements and miscommunications; but through that, relationships can be stronger and deeper. We still have some themes during Wednesdays once in a while, but this was one of the Wednesdays I will surely remember and treasure deep in my heart.

THE APOTHEOSIS

USC Apotheosis 2019 (HUMSS-11-B Performance)

I came to University of San Carlos without any idea what life I would be living, and what challenges I would be facing. I was very happy that I was able to meet my block-mates, the HUMSS-11-B. They made me feel at home, and I had a “we” feeling when I’m with them. I’m thankful that through the hardships and struggles I had to face, I was with my second family. Truly, without them I would not have survive the first years of Senior High School.

The most unforgettable experience I had in University of San Carlos was when me and my block-mates experienced “USC Apotheosis 2019” where we were tasked to unite as one to perform a speech choir. They gaved us a piece entitled
The Resiliency of a Filipino by William G. Bacani. They gaved us a month to prepare for the event, and it was a competition for HUMSS and Arts & Design blocks. My block-mates and I really prepared for the event. It wasn’t easy because we had to cooperate and unite as one to finish the whole speech choir piece. We had ups and downs. It was a heavy week for us because we had some misunderstanding with my classmates, but it ended with us working things out together.

Practices were made every day, and it was really tiring. We had to finish 6-8 in the evening because we had to memorize our lines and actions well. The last two days before the final event, my classmates decided to form a circle together. It was a method we used to let everyone in the circle see the actions and emotions each person did when performing the speech. It was really fun, and we bonded more in that little circle that we made that night.

After all the practices and preparations, the day of the event came. We were very nervous because most of the blocks really prepared for this event because they looked to ready. Everyone performed well on stage. When it was our turn, we did our best as a block. And it was all paid off in the end. When they announced the winners of the Speech Choir Competitions, we were all nervous. We didn’t expect any awards because we knew the other blocks performed so good.

The results were out. We were Third Place! We were very happy. All the hard work and dedication pulled off in the end. We won.

This experience has taught me a lot of things. It taught me that teamwork and dedication can make anything possible. I was very thankful of my block mates for they really did their best during the event. Even though we had some misunderstandings from the beginning of the practices, we sorted them out in the end and now here we were. We faced many challenges along the way, but we never let these challenges affect the outcome of our hard work and dedication. This was my unforgettable experiences in University of San Carlos. 🙂
